AID & ATTENDANCE
PENSION ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

The Aid and Attendance pension is a non-service connected benefit which means that you did not have to be injured in the line of duty or even participate in combat to qualify.

If you are a US war veteran or the surviving spouse of a US war veteran, you could potentially qualify for the Aid & Attendance benefit.

Qualifications are:

  • Veteran must have served a minimum of 1 day during an active war as defined by Congress. (see chart below)
  • Veteran must have had no less then 90 days of active military service. Surviving spouses must have been married to the veteran when they passed.
  • You must have a doctor's order stating that you need the assistance of another person to live safely in your home.
  • You must have less then 80K in checking and savings or even less if you are applying as a single (not including your home or vehicles)
  • You must have received an honorable discharge or general discharge.

WORLD WAR II 12/07/1941 - 12/31/1946
KOREA 06/27/1950 - 1/31/1955
VIETNAM 08/05/1964 - 5/7/1975
GULF WAR 08/02/1990 - Present
